Q: Do I need to be registered to use OUTSHOUTS?
Anyone can receive and play OUTSHOUTS, or browse OUTSHOUTS from the browse page. To send your own OUTSHOUTS, or save and embed your favorites, you’ll need to sign up by entering your email and creating a password.
Q: Do I need a mobile phone to use OUTSHOUTS?
No, just a valid email address. But registering your mobile makes it more fun since you can send and receive OUTSHOUTS directly from your mobile. If you don't register a mobile phone when you sign up, you can always add one later in your account settings page.
Q: What if I want to use OUTSHOUTS from a different phone number than the one I've registered?
No problem. If you happen to call in from a phone number that is different from the one you've registered, the system will just ask for your registered phone number and the first 4 letters of your password to confirm your identity. If you're calling from a foreign phone or via Skype/VOIP, the number you are prompted to enter should always be the phone number you signed up with. If you forgot to register your mobile phone number when you signed up, you can go to your account settings and enter it there.
Q: My OUTSHOUT doesn't play all the way through to the end of the song. How come?
OUTSHOUTS is not an ‘on demand’ listening station or a music sharing site. To stay within the boundaries of copyright, OUTSHOUT recipients are allowed 3 full plays. After that, the copyright portion will convert to a 60 second sample, with your message still in place. This is also why you don't see the artist/song title until you hit the 'play' button. If you really love the song and want to hear more, why not consider buying the track from Amazon?
Q: How do I purchase music I've come across on OUTSHOUTS?
Find the BUY IT button in the OUTSHOUT player and click on either "iTunes" or "Amazon." You can purchase and download either a single song or the entire album as a download from iTunes, or you can purchase the entire album on CD and have it shipped from Amazon.
Q: How do I retrieve an OUTSHOUT that someone has sent me if I'm not registered?
Anyone can receive and play OUTSHOUTS - they don’t have to be registered. If your friend sent an OUTSHOUT to your mobile phone, you should receive a text message directing your to dial 415-294-2227 to listen to your OUTSHOUT. If they sent it via email, you can just click on the link provided (if you don't see it in your inbox, be sure to check your junk or bulk mail folder). If you missed an OUTSHOUT that someone has sent to you, you can enter your email or mobile number on the homepage and we’ll go find it for you.
Q. I can't hear my voice when I use the recorder. What's going on?
Check to see that your computer has a microphone installed and that the volume control on your OUTSHOUTS player is on max (slide it to the right).
Q: What about copyright?
We check every track that gets uploaded for copyright, to keep things on the up and up. If your track has a known copyright each recipient will be allowed 3 full plays and the the copyright portion will be limited to a 60 second sample.
If you know your track doesn't have a copyright, or you own the audio, just check the box under 'advanced' and we'll make sure that OUTSHOUT is always played in full for all listeners.
